Karate, just like the rest of the Martial Arts, was created by people who had to learn how to defend themselves. In Okinawa, a group of moves and exercises became the way that taught them how to attack and defend themselves, while, in the same time, their body became stronger, faster and more flexible.
You don’t have to be strong to take up karate lessons; the only thing needed is the will to practice through an alternative way of exercise, through a complete martial art, which can teach you how to use your hands and legs and your whole body as a mean of defense.
Moving in different directions, punches, blocks, kicks, grips, locks are some of the basic techniques one can learn in karate.
In every karate lesson, our main concern is the physical integrity of the participant and that is why all punches and kicks are practiced on cushion targets or punchbags; in this way, our athletes are safe while at the same time can sense the feeling of hitting a solid object.
Every conscientious trainer or Sensei (teacher in Japanese) is responsible for the physical integrity of his students; it is also very reasonable when anyone decides to take up a any kind of sport to want to feel safe in it.
Kihon (basic techniques) and Kata (forms) are the base line of any beginner in karate. Through Kihon and Kata one can improve technique while at the same time he strengthens his body evenly. Finally, we should point out that stretching is a very important part of our training, since without flexibility our body is fragile, no matter how strong we may think it is.
Many people across the world have began training in karate at a mature age and the results both in their mental and their physical health were impressive.
Trying it out could convince anyone of the benefits of this special martial art, this special way of exercise.
However the link between this art and the participant, that is called “Teacher” is something that should be thoroughly examined.
For better or worse we live in a time that the information offered to the public is countless, so take advantage of them the best way possible!!!
